The Kiev-Pecherskaya Lavra
|
Situated on the right bank of Dneiper, on two hills southeast from the City center is the Kiev-Pecherskaya Lavra (the biggest monastery of russian orthodox church & most famous historical place in the Ukraine).

There are many of temples on the monastery grounds, workshops that renovate the past, Kilometers of caves with underground churches and ancient relics that have the bones of Saints of bygone years, as well as the most interesting Kiev museums. Amongst them - a Museum of historical values, Museum of Literature and Typography(printing), Museum of Ukrainian decorative folk art and the others. To enter the caves you should buy a candle instead of a ticket.
This amazing complex of caves covering a great area, Kiev-Pecherskaya Lavra, contains many well-known historical buildings. Amongst the most ancient (11 - 12ad.) is the site of a church rescue documented on Birch bark, buried here is the founder of Moscow, Uriy Dolgorukiy.
Also located here is a male Monastery, Kiev Theological Seminary, Spiritual academy and residence of the metropolitan Ukrainian orthodox Church.
